Microsoft Demonstrates AI-Generated Quake II

Microsoft has introduced WHAMM (World and Human Action MaskGIT Model), an AI model that generates and allows real-time gameplay of Quake II. It produces over ten frames per second at 640 × 360 pixels and supports basic interactions like jumping and shooting. WHAMM requires significantly less training data—just one week of gameplay on a single level, compared to seven years of video in the previous project. This was made possible by a new architecture with parallel image generation and higher-quality training data from professional game testers.
