Google Uses AI to Support EU Climate Goals

Google’s new whitepaper suggests generative AI could reduce global emissions by 5–10% by 2030—equal to the EU’s annual footprint. The plan focuses on three areas: enabling data and skills, deploying AI in high-emission sectors like energy and transport, and guiding decarbonization efforts in tech infrastructure. With seven European data centers and 3.7 GW in renewable energy contracts, Google aims to support climate goals while also strengthening its influence over AI regulation in the EU, particularly as U.S. climate policies stall.
