FuriosaAI Rejects Metas Acquisition Offer

South Korean chipmaker FuriosaAI turned down an $800 million acquisition offer from Meta, preferring to remain independent and focus on developing AI chips. Meta sought to reduce its dependence on Nvidia for its data centers. The deal fell through due to disagreements over the company’s organizational structure and post-acquisition strategy. FuriosaAI, founded in 2017 by June Paik, has developed the AI chip RNGD, designed for reasoning models. The company is currently raising €44 million in its Series C funding round.
