Apple AI Hardware Crisis
Apple is reportedly lagging behind in AI development due to an internal decision that limited critical GPU acquisitions. According to the New York Times, Apple CFO Luca Maestri blocked a large GPU purchase two years ago, which hampered the training of new AI models. Despite CEO Tim Cook approving a chip budget increase in 2023, Maestri later scaled it back, relying on efficiency improvements instead. With outdated hardware and insufficient external computing resources, Apple’s AI progress has stalled. As a result, the company’s planned AI updates for Siri are now delayed until fall 2025.
